two nockFORCE videos for you today: first up is "OMG Facebook Photo", which I'm sure you will understand if you've seen it happen:
Yes, this actually happens in real life. If you don't know, well now you know
That one was kind of a challenge because I had to create completely new character designs- usually the character designs in nockFORCE fantasy segments have monotone colors but since they dominate this short I decided to go for a two-tone approach with slight deviations for mouth colors (keeping the mouths the same tone made them harder to see). Rebecca told me she enjoys when I use basic shapes for characters so I tried to go further with that with these girly designs and I think it came out pretty good.
My only regret with these shorts is that I don't get to do much animation. Producing these weekly is kind of a strain but i STILL want to add some actual movement and it's rare that I get the chance to. I try to make up for this by experimenting with designs as much as I can but I wish I had more time. Ah well.
second is the nockFORCE video from last week:
This is exactly what I'm talking about. There's hardly anything going on visually because the dialogue is pretty much taking over. In these instances I like to think of these shorts as comic strips, basic posing and not much background variation.
A lot of animation people are always critical of what they deem "visual radio", just talking with characters not really doing much. I'm critical of it too, even though that's exactly what I'm doing. Hello hypocrisy! I try to make it at least somewhat interesting.
speaking of interesting, print this on a t-shirt and join the club:
I did this last weekend and had fun with the animation. Is he "your boss"? how accurate am I?
Yes, the rapping cartoon duo that I am one half of has just completed it's new EP, with four songs of fun! Check it out at our myspace when you have the time.
Second up!
Winter clothin' is good drawin'.
Third up!
As you may have read on MY boss's blog(no he's nothing like "your boss" from the above youtube), the Venture Bros footage that I was so nervous about came back from Korea.... and it looks great! *PHEW!* It's really weird seeing your drawings and timing on screen in a cartoon like that. I'm never going to get used to it.
1. Venture Bros consumes my days. I'm having an easier and easier time on the direction, but the first show isn't back from Korea yet, and that makes me kind of nervous. I hope my stuff comes back looking okay!
2.
3. Been gearing up for some freelance stuff. I got a really fun project to work on, one that I can hopefully show you soon. I get to collab with a hero of mine.
Hachi Machi! Another nockFORCE quickie!!!!! These might be grating on your nerves by now, I promise to get the second episode done as soon as I can
I haven't been posting much artwork lately... Between the quickies, working on the episode, Venture Bros day-job, and working on music I haven't had much time to sit down and do decent drawings outside of the crap I do in my moleskine on my way to/from work. Maybe I'll just scan a bunch of those.
These quickies... don't have much animation. That's cuz I'm spending all my other time on finishing the animation for nockFORCE episode 2. I'll put up some storyboard panels later.
IN OTHER NEWS! The show that resulted from my first directing gig IS AIRING THIS SATURDAY IN EUROPE. So if you get CITV and you're awake at 10:15a on Saturday, put down that crepe and tune in! Or you could just watch the clips on the site I linked. That's good enough.
Directing Venture Bros is kind of kicking my ass. I havent had any chance to scan any of the stuff I've been working on. But it's only my first week and I'm hoping it will get better.
I try to create a piece of artwork for every song. This one is obviously referencing Dragonball Z to go along with the theme of transformation. The song uses a sample from Sailor Moon but come on, I'm not going to draw these characters in skirts.
Another Quickie:
I'm pretty sure it's obvious that we're ripping off home movies here :D
a lil piece of rough animation from the opening sequence im doin:
my favorite thing about rough animation in flash is that i can copypasta in the cases where I just used to do tracebacks. of course that doesnt really help when doing cleanup, but whatever.
this is the last piece of the puzzle! hopefully it'll be complete this weekend
EDIT: it doesnt really play at 30 fps wtf! oh well hopefully you can still enjoy it... in slow motion
Funny how just adding a background makes everything look so different.
Someone emailed me about this film I did today and that reminded me that I never posted it here. I present to you George and Ted!
People always thought the "confession" scenes were unfinished... but they were supposed to be like that. My idea was that when cartoon characters aren't "on" and entertaining the cameras, they look all rough and sketchy. But I guess that didnt come across. I should have just colored it. :\
